Leather is a natural hide created through the tanning of hides and skins of animals, primarily cow hide. The tanning practice changes the putrescible hide into a strong, enduring and versatile natural material for various uses.
Together with wood and leather, formed the main ingredient of a large amount of ancient technical practices. The leather trade and the fur industry are separate trades that are differentiated by the signification of their crude materials. Taxidermy similarly will utilise the skin of animals, but customarily the head and part of the back are used. Skins and hides are utilised in the making of adhesives and gelatin as well.

Polyvinyl chloride, typically abbreviated as PVC, is a commonly used thermoplastic polymer.
It may be made softer and plenty more elastic by the introduction of plasticizers, the more widely used being phthalates. In this form, it is utilised in dress (vinyl hats, jackets & pants) and upholstery, (vinyl covered chairs, lounges, etc) and to form elastic electrical cable insulation, hoses and tubing and flooring, to roofing membranes.
